A new game from Lionel, best known for their model trains and railroad tracks, is getting ready to hit the iPad this summer. Battle Train will put you in command of a supply train in a future where trains dominate transportation once again – no more roads, no more cars (except the malevolent robot kind). You’ll need to protect your train and the cargo inside from the machinations of one Dr. DeRaille and his legions of Robocars.
In the game, you’ll choose between one of three Lionel engines – The General, the Santa Fe FT Diesel, or the New York Central Flyer. From there, you battle through a few different environments, taking out Robocars, collecting cargo, and earning upgrades you can use to add new weapons or sturdier armor in the Switchyard, which you”ll hit between missions. There are also side missions to accept, for an extra challenge. Being an iPad app, there will also be leaderboards you can check out in the GameCenter.
Battle Train is slated to become available on the iTunes App Store for the iPad sometime this summer. The game will be free to download with in-app purchases possible, which will include upgrades to armor and new weapons. Keep an eye out on the Battle Train site or the game’s Facebook page for more information on a hard release date, but it should be coming very soon. Meanwhile, you can check out the trailer for the game below, and then go dust off that model train and track you have up on the shelf.
UPDATE: Battle Train is now available on the iTunes App Store.
