If you’re a parent, you may or may not have run across Sid the Science Kid, an educational show on PBS Kids. The purple-haired youngster, his friends, and his teacher guide young kids through their first science lessons, and have lately been showing up in app form. Sid the Science Kid – Sid’s Slide to the Side is the latest example.
This app is one of the first in what will be a series of appisodes, which are a bit like the educational storybooks we frequently see released as apps by other developers. There’s a basic story, which is dedicated to one science topic – in this case, friction. There are plenty of mini-games and activities along the way, including a racing game that highlights the various amount of friction produced by different surfaces.
He’s no Bill Nye (hey, who is?), but Sid the Science Kid makes a pretty good attempt at teaching kids science without being too boring. Sid the Science Kid – Sid’s Slide to the Side is available now on the iTunes App Store for $2.99.
