Activision introduced a new entry into their joint toy-video game Skylanders line at the American International Toy Fair, called Skylanders SWAP Force.
There’s no specific word on which platforms the video game Skylanders SWAP Force will be released on, but the idea is similar to the previous Skylanders games – physical toys of the characters in the game can be collected, which will open up new powers, abilities, and characters in the game. Besides the new toys, toys sold in tandem with the previous games – Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure and Skylanders: Giants – can be used as part of the player’s collection in the new game.
At release, there will be 16 SWAP figures available. This time, the bottom and top halves of each figure can be swapped, making for 256 combinations, all of which have a different mix of powers and abilities. In the game, there will be 32 characters – 16 new and 16 from the previous Skylanders games – in addition to the 16 from the new toy line. Eight additional characters will come over from the LightCore series.
Skylanders SWAP Force is on track for a fall 2013 release, but there is no word yet on pricing. There’s been no confirmation on where Skylanders SWAP Force is heading, but it seems likely that it’ll be going to the PS3, Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii, Nintendo 3DS, and might even see some sort of an iOS release.
