Ematic Announces FunTab Pro, an Ice Cream Sandwich Tablet for Kids

Ematic’s latest tablet is a grown-up tablet in a kids’ tablet’s body. The FunTab Pro (has to be the first time a kids’ product has gotten a “Pro” designation, right?) is a 7” Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich tablet, but don’t worry – your kids won’t be wandering over the dangerous badlands of the Internet without restriction.

Zoodles Kids is an app that provides educational content for younger learners, providing large buttons and audio cues. The web browser on the FunTab Pro is limited to kid-friendly sites, and filters out all the undesirable aspects of the Web. The tablet is pre-loaded with storybooks, games, artistic apps, and video mail, which allows others to use Zoodles.com to send video messages to the tablet – it could revolutionize the way you give your children chore lists. Parents can also record themselves reading those storybooks mentioned above to their kids, for a more personalized touch.

The outside of the tablet has a rubberized grip that will be comfortable for kids to hold. Inside, there’s a 1 GHz processor, 1 GB of RAM, 8 GB of storage, and a Micro SD card slot that expands storage by up to 32 GB. It has an 800 x 480 multi-touch screen capable of playing videos in 1080p. You’ll also find an HDMI-out port and built-in Wi-Fi connectivity. The battery should last for up to eight hours.

The Ematic FunTab Pro can be found at Walmart for about $150. The tablet will come with faceplates in blue, pink, and red that can be swapped at will.
