You can now organize them into albums and create simple mini-games based on each shot.

Given the target audience (maybe 2-5 years old), the games remain very simple. You can record questions about the picture (for example, “Where’s your nose?” for a picture of your child), and kids can answer by tapping or tracing shapes on the screen. The added benefit of this is that you make the games yourself, so your child can hear your recorded voice while they are playing. There are also 20 musical tracks that you can add to your game. Once you’re done, you can let your kids play, and track their progress on the app later.

Of course, this isn’t limited to photographs. You can make your own drawings using another app, then upload to TinyTap. With that in mind, the possibilities are endless. If you’re short on ideas, or have one that you really want to share, you can use TinyTap to check out the community, where you can share your games and see what others have come up with. There’s also a TinyTap store, where you can purchase more games made by the TinyTap development team.

TinyTap is available now for free on the iTunes App Store.

There was a world record set this past weekend at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, but it didn’t go down at the Indianapolis 500. It happened the day before, at the opening act for the premier IndyCar race in the United States.

That’s when Hot Wheels held its World’s Best Driver Championship event, which featured the record in question – the longest toy race car track ever built. The track was four lanes, and spanned one mile. It was also the site of a race between four kids and their Hot Wheels, to settle speed superiority. Or, reaction time, anyway – after releasing the cars down a ramp, the four cars zoomed down and hit occasional speed boost sections of the track that propelled the cars around to the finish line.

Christopher Bienusa’s car came out on top, and he celebrated in true Indy 500 fashion – downing the traditional bottle of milk and kissing the bricks at the racetrack. And, seeing as how he got some personal time with the legendary Andretti brothers of racing, who knows – it might not be Bienusa’s last time coming out on top at a raceway. We’ll have to see if any more world records will be involved.

At eight years old, Robinson had the idea of flip flops adorned with sea creatures and battery-powered lights – the L.A. Gear of the sandal world, perhaps. She started making drawings of what would later become a new family company – Fish Flops for Kids. Her father, who also has fashion experience as a banker-turned-T-shirt designer, took the drawings and had samples made for trade shows. Trade shows led to buyers, which snowballed into $1.2 million in retail sales in 2012, plus revenue from wholesale deals.

All that means the young Robinson, with the help of her father, is getting an up-close look at how to run a successful business. She hasn’t just been doing the design work, either – the whole thing has become an internship of sorts, with the 15-year-old learning the in-and-outs of logistics, sales, online marketing, working the charity angle, and outsourcing production (OK, not all the lessons have necessarily been good ones).

It’s also like an internship in that Robinson isn’t getting paid – at least not yet. The high school student won’t be seeing a dime of that business money until she needs to start using it for college, where she can put together an academic education in business with the practical knowledge she already has. What does she want to do with all that education and experience? Who knows, but Robinson is intent on making her next company her very own, without dad’s help.

As for Fish Flops for Kids, you can find them online and in stores including Nordstrom and Macy’s, the latter of which is requesting a line for women. The flip flops sell for $20 a pair.

The magnet stretches up to 5’3”, and has both Imperial and metric measurements. And, it’s marker friendly, so you can notch growth by whatever time scale you choose. Hey, if you’re really creatively inclined, you can even use it to make a sort of childhood timeline, with artwork and report cards from each age.

The Height Chart Fridge Magnet is selling for £7.50, or about $11.36, from Suck UK.

Actually, it might be more appropriate to say it was built with teachers in mind. The keyboard runs on a wired connection, instead of Bluetooth, because making sure something is plugged in for 30+ students is a lot easier than making sure everyone’s Bluetooth connection is up and running. The keyboard is also made to be durable and spill-resistant, but I don’t know about that last one, because you kids aren’t supposed to be having drinks out in class anyway.

The keyboard is available with either a 30-pin connector or a Lightning connector. Hopefully down the road we’ll see similar products for some of the cheaper Android tablets hitting schools around the world, but for now, Apple-equipped classrooms can get Logitech Wired Keyboards for about $60. You can pre-order now, but the keyboard won’t be shipping until October of this year.

Monsters University Storybook Deluxe gives the standard Storybook Deluxe experience – games, activities, and a few different reading modes – narration, highlighted text, and free reading. And, quotes and backgrounds are interactive, rewarding the curious with extra sounds and animations. Activities this time around include a tool for creating your own Monsters University badge, and the Monsterify photo tool, which has predictable results.

There are also five scare games, which are in third or first person, which use both touch and audio input from players. There are also monster cards you can collect of the characters from the movie, like Mike and Sulley, plus a Monsters University trophy case.

Monsters University Storybook Deluxe is available now on the iTunes App Store for $6.99, and the movie comes out on June 21.

That was a problem for 12-year-old Isabel Hughes, who’s at that age where fractions are an inevitability. So, she took matters into her own hands.

Her and her father, a software developer, co-wrote an app, Fraction Calculator Plus, which is by far the easiest way to perform simple functions with fractions. There are three sets of 0-9 keys – one bar on the left side for whole numbers, and two boxes on the right side for fractions. The upper box is for the numerator, while the lower box is for the denominator. There’s a row on the bottom for addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. And, that’s pretty much it. That’s pretty much all students Isabel’s age want, and she has delivered.

Fraction Calculator Plus is available for Kindle on the Amazon App Store for $0.99.

So easy that many people might end up taking too many – all that media might get lost in the roiling sea that is the average camera roll.

That’s the problem Disney is trying to solve with its Story app. No Disney characters here, though – this time around, Disney wants to help you tell your own story. Story takes all the photos and videos in your roll, and organizes them based on when and where they were taken. From there, you can refine any given chunk of media into a story.

The end result will sort of be like a multimedia photo album. Once you have one of those chunks, you can remove pictures and videos that don’t pass muster. Then, you can work on telling the story with captions or full-on pages of text. Different themes and layouts can be used as finishing touches, after which your story can be shared over social media or email. They can also be shared privately over the Web by using the story.us website, which non-app, non-Facebook users can access to view stories. Your stories are not made public on story.us, though, so only people you share your story with will be able to see them. Your stories are also automatically saved to iCloud, as this is an iOS-only app for now.

If that moment comes too soon for your liking, good news – you can just grab a few Robo Fish and call it a day.

Robo Fish are little robotic fish activated when they hit water. They swim around, and their movements look pretty close to the real thing. Granted, these will die, too, but on the upside, you and your kids don’t have to feed them, so they’ll probably last longer than actual goldfish.

There are four different kinds of fish you can grab. Or, if you want to give up the pretense of realism (or if your kids just think sharks are rad), there are four different shark bots you can buy, too. No laser beams on the head, which seems to be a missed opportunity. Zuru Toys’ Robo Fish can be found now for about $10 in CVS stores.

Following up on the original ColorStudio HD app, both of these apps feature five full storybooks and 30 coloring pages full of line art ready to be colored in. But, these aren’t just static pages. While kids are drawing, the pictures will react with animations, sounds, and music, making for a more engaging experience. Of course, the roots are in the artistic parts, and that comes from a wide variety of virtual tools to play with – 64 crayons, 24 colored pencils, and 10 markers.

And, like the coloring books of old, the finished product can still go up on the refrigerator. The apps work with AirPrint, so you can print pages directly from your iPad quickly. The apps also work with the Crayola iMarker, a special stylus made for the ColorStudio line of apps.

The ColorStudio HD Barbie and Hot Wheels apps are available now for the iPad for $2.99 each.
