Leapfrog has come out with a new handheld gaming device for kids, and this one doesn’t just play games – it’s also an e-book reader and video player. The new Leapster Explorer features a 3.2″ 420×420 touch screen that can play 3D graphics and flash-based games. The Explorer will be available on July 12th with 12 games at launch and 18 Leaplet Learning Apps. The system itself will retail for $69.99, and game cartridges will go for $24.95. Looking ahead, in the fall, a special camera accessory will be also be available that will further utilize the Explorer’s capabilities by unlocking new gaming experiences.

Interesting–an ebook reader (and more) for kids. I’ve been waiting for ebooks to hit the children’s toy market. http://dld.bz/gw5N
