There is a common misconception that boys are better at math and science than girls. According to the Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study, young women are doing really well when it comes to math and science test scores. In half of the participating countries, there was no visible test score difference between boys and girls. Which is why it shouldn’t be too surprising that 40 percent of this year’s 300 Intel Science Talent Search semifinalists are girls. The Intel Science Talent Search is an annual competition where high school seniors submit original mathematical, engineering and scientific research projects. Last year’s winner was a girl.
